" Like Air India 1, I began with photo slides of my Aunt Joyce’s art collection in 1961. The documentation of one of the bronze statues of the goddess Parvati (I think), were all tinged with magenta. Close-up and out-of-context detail shots of the statue were mixed throughout the archive, only identifiable by this magenta hue. Choosing only the shots of the goddess’ hands, I used this imagery to form the white woven fabric. The weave structures in the other layers of fabric are made from patterns found in Air India advertising posters that were hanging in the office in 1961. I particularly enjoyed playing with the tiger and turban stripes in these posters to understand in part the exoticism embedded within a very popular pattern in fabric design today: the undulating twill.
