San Francisco has been re-emerging with some very strong art projects, galleries, and new gallery locations in the past 12 months, and Chandran Gallery will continue the trend with a site-specific, two-story installation by former Juxtapoz featured artist Jay Nelson and fine artist Rachel Kaye.
As the gallery notes, the show, "Pairing #2," is "the artist couple observes the intrinsic exchange of influence resulting from living and creating art side-by-side for the past 15 years." We have been getting some sneak peeks of the installation and some of the paintings for the show, alongside some the early sketches of the structure and how each of their paintings relate to the space. "Collaboration has been a way to open the dialogue in the studio. We realized we share in every other aspect of our life, why draw the line in the studio. While we don't directly mark on each other's work, we leave an imprint and surrender ownership. This has afforded us more freedom in our practice."
