Eleanor Harwood Gallery is pleased to present Snow Dream, a show of five artists working in a diverse range of media including traditional painting and drawing, sculpture, installation, and video. All of these artists are magicians in one way or another. The works included explore themes of alchemy, geomancy, spellcraft, sacred geometries, and meditation as magic.
Magic is a system of rituals and methods for spiritual growth or manipulating aspects of nature. While in contemporary western society magic is frequently regarded with suspicion or relegated to the realms of fiction, artists have been upholding many of these traditions in isolation and secrecy. The women featured in this exhibition excel at manifesting their own realities through artistic practices.
Alice Shaw
Alice Shaw holds an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. She has exhibited in San Francisco, Sacramento, New York and Stuttgart. She lives and works in San Francisco.
Anne J. Regan
Anne J. Regan holds an MFA in Painting and Drawing from University of Houston. She has exhibited in San Francisco, Houston, New Orleans, and New York. She lives and works in Houston, TX.
Caroline Contillo
Caroline Contillo studied illustration, art history and cultural anthropology at CUNY Hunter College. Her particular interest in this series is in the way an anarchic disruption of expectations can short circuit the rational mind and allow insight to sneak in. Caroline is currently the Associate Director of The Interdependence Project, a Buddhist Arts, Activism and Meditation Center. Caroline lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
Kara Joslyn
Kara Joslyn holds a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the California College of Arts and Crafts. She has exhibited in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. She lives and works in Oakland, CA.
Kylea Borges
Kylea Borges works in collage and sculptural installation. Her works marry observations from nature and textiles in an elegant dance of natural geometries. Self taught, she has exhibited in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Copenhagen. She lives and works in San Francisco.
